Homemade Air Freshener and NYR Organics

by Deliciously Organic on August 30, 2012

homemade air freshener
Years ago, I decided to give up all my scented candles and conventional air fresheners and find organic, toxin-free replacements. I adore the scent of a sugar cookie dough candle at the holidays or lemon during the summertime, but between the petroleum products, soy, and artificial fragrances, I didn’t feel right burning them in my home and breathing them in. Unfortunately finding organic, non-toxic candles and scents proved a difficult task.

I tried over the years and finally found a product I love – The NYR Organic China Burner.

You just fill the cup with a few teaspoons of water and add any combination of organic essential oils.

Here are a few combinations I tried:
Frankincense 2 drops and Bergamot 3 drops: this blend will help with focus and concentration while having an uplifting, energizing quality

Rosemary 2 drops and Eucalyptus 2 drops: an invigorating and cleansing blend

Geranium 2 drops, Lavender 2 drops and Grapefruit 2 drops: a balancing blend which will help with feelings of exhaustion - My Favorite!

When fall comes I’m excited to use a little vanilla or other extracts in my pantry as a substitute for a sugar cookie candle.

To replace my soy candles at home, I used these Beeswax Votives. A refreshing, completely toxin-free scent for my home. That makes me happy!

NYR Organics also has some organic facial serums, cosmetics, lotions, etc.

Stephanie from NYR Organics has graciously offered a 25% discount on your first order for all Deliciously Organic readers. All you need to do is call in your order, mention Deliciously Organic and you’re good to go!

I requested to review the china burner and essential oils. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I still buy old, not really organic air fresheners, but this is a perfect replacement. I love it. I like the second combination with rosemary oil, I am sure it smells wonderful. Thanks for sharing this.

I will check out this product for sure. We are preparing for baby #6 and this would be a great addition to have in the room to help in soothing her.
Thank you

Congrats on your 6th! I think it’s a great idea to use this in a baby’s room. I would imagine lavender in the evenings would be a nice way to relax her.

You are right, the smell and purity of homemade air fresheners is wonderful. We have lots of essential oils to mix things up.

Does anyone have any air freshener/absorber ideas that don’t involve candles? I would love to use them, but I have cats and I’d be too nervous of them getting into the candles to use it.

Thanks!

I have allergy induced asthma and read years ago of the toxic substances in scented candles. They have always given me bad reactions and I try and avoid the “air poisoner” section when shopping. Even unscented candles burning can cause me to need my inhaler. Most of what I use is good old fashioned clean house and opening windows, but I often boil water in a small pan and add either essential oils or fruit peels. Lemon and orange are nice and I add cinnamon to apple peels. Natural is best!

Hi Carrie,

I made these cookies and they were absolutely wonderful! I almost ate all of them in one sitting. They were amazing. I do have a qs, mine would not stay whole. Once I picked one up, it would break or crumble. Any suggestions? Not sure if I need to do something, but I followed the recipe. Other than that, even my picky eater of a husband liked them so that is a HUGE success!

I’m so glad you enjoyed the cookies. Since this comment is coming through on the “air freshener” post, can you please tell me which cookie recipe you made so I can better answer your question? Thanks!

Carrie,
The cookie I made was the chocolate Chip cookie made with almond and coconut flour and gelatin.
Thanks.

Hmm…I’m not sure what went wrong. A few questions – What brand of almond flour and gelatin did you use? Did you make any substitutions? Hopefully we can figure this out! :)

Wonderful idea. I will do that. I am consultant with doterra essential oils. These are certified pure therapeutic grade oils. Check my website out and tell me what do think about it.
I enjoy your fb posts :)
