3-Ingredient Chocolate Mousse (Grain-Free, Paleo)

I originally saw this intriguing recipe as part of a tart in a cooking magazine and I had to give it a try. A 3-ingredient chocolate mousse? Impossible! Well, I was wrong!

3-Ingredient Chocolate Mousse (Grain-Free, Paleo)

The only ingredients in this decadent mousse are coconut oil, coconut cream, and dark chocolate. Added bonus: no whipping! Just melt, whisk, pour and refrigerate.

Here are the exact brands of ingredients that I used for this recipe:
Nutiva coconut oil
Enjoy Life Chocolate Chips
Native Forest Coconut Cream

For some extra fun, I used heart cookie stamps with my dairy-free sugar cookie dough and the kids loved them! Happy Valentines!

  • Prep Time: 10 minutes
  • Total Time: 1 hour 10 minutes

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup coconut oil
  • 5 ounces semisweet chocolate
  • 1 1/2 cups coconut cream

Instructions

  1. Melt the coconut oil and chocolate over a double-boiler. Whisk in coconut cream. Pour the chocolate mixture into small bowls and refrigerate for 1 hour. Serve cold.
  2. Note: For the coconut cream you’ll need three 150ml cans to make this recipe, but if you use all of the contents of all three cans, you’ll have more than what’s needed. So, use all of of the contents of one can (the coconut cream and the liquid at the bottom), and then just scoop out the solid coconut cream out of the other two cans.

I haven't tested this recipe with various measurements of different ingredients, so I'm not sure.

Oh my goodness...this was so good. I just made this for my husband as a valentines treat. He said he likes it better than the coconut ice cream we so often buy. And since most of my life is spent in the kitchen I love even more that it is so simple!

I made this and it is FABULOUS! I was looking for a yummy but healthy option for Valentine's Day. I used the jars from my yogurt maker as my dishes. I poured the melted mixture into five of the yogurt jars, screwed the lids on and popped them all in the refrigerator. This was PERFECT since I am eating one each day until they are gone! I was a little envious of the rest of my family as they ate their decadent Valentine's desserts but I have to tell you, this chocolate mousse doesn't give me a stomach ache like traditional desserts - and I had leftovers and am still enjoying it! Ha! I will be making more very soon; I still have one-half bag of the Enjoy Life chips left which is the perfect amount to make one more batch. This treat is going to be a staple for me from now on. Soooo good!

Hey Carrie~ the link for the dairy-free sugar cookie dough goes to your cookbook at Amazon. Could you tell me which page that is supposed to be on? I have the Kindle version and can't find it.

My experience with coconut milk and coconut cream tells me that you would have chocolate milk and not a rich chocolate mousse, Cara.

I just made this! DELICIOUSLY simple - and with the coconut oil and coconut cream it made it feel “healthier”, despite the chocolate chips. LOL! I needed to cut the recipe in half, since I only had two of the 5.4 oz cans of coconut cream. I aimed for ¾ of a cup and came just under that - which still worked. The other measurements were ⅛ of a cup of coconut oil and 2.5 (approx) of the chocolate chips. Thanks so much for such a simple, quick and decadent desert. :-)

No, it takes you to the "milk and cream section", with multiple options..... Also, the link for the cookie stamps goes to the Williams Sonoma homepage.....no idea which stamps you have.....if you could include the item link, that would be great, or send a picture of your stamps. Thanks!

I was going to state the same as Carol L. The link only takes you to multiple choices for “coconut” milks/creams - not the product you used for the recipe. I would love to make this, but also would like to understand which product works best. I have a can of actual coconut “cream” in my pantry, but it sounds like we just need to purchase coconut milk and skim the cream off the top? This sounds so good, so your clarification would be super helpful. Thanks so much Carrie!

I made this for Valentine’s Day. I used one whole can of coconut cream & the cream from the other two cans per directions. I measured them & it was not 1 1/2 cups. My husband liked it but to me it tasted like the coconut oil. Any suggestions for substitutes for the coconut oil? Thank you for all of your recipes.
