This Chocolate Cheesecake Protein Shake is a fantastic way to get the day started!

This shake is a combination of raw milk, collagen powder, cottage cheese, cocoa powder, maple syrup, egg yolks and vanilla. It’s creamy, chocolatly and the cottage cheese and vanilla gives it a rich cheesecake flavor!

Chocolate Cheesecake Protein Shake

Let’s talk about protein for a minute. It’s a “beauty queen” nutrient at the moment and from my perspective, we’re placing a bit too much emphasis on it. Protein is very important, but we all don’t need super high amounts of this nutrient each day.

The amount each person needs varies with age, gender, weight and level of physical activity.

For men, protein requirements vary from about 50-100 grams per day. And, for women it ranges from about 50-75 grams per day. Of course, this number will change if one is an athlete or doing a lot of vigorous physical exercise. For example, a man that weighs 180 pounds, may need as much as 160 grams of protein in one day.

Here are some of my favorite protein-rich foods:
Raw milk
Eggs
Cheese
Cottage cheese
Red meat, liver, poultry or fish

Protein and Vitamin A Deficiency:

If you do consume protein powders or high amounts of protein, it’s really important to understand that this can, overtime, deplete vitamin A stores.

Vitamin A (aka retinol) is important to so many processes in the body including, hormone production (like testosterone and thyroid hormone), immune system function, healthy vision and hearing, bone health, it’s needed so vitamins D and K2 can work in the body and much more.

So, making sure to consume plenty of good animal foods and animal fats is very important when eating a lot of protein or using protein powders.

So, if you’re looking for a shake that combines both healthy protein along with vitamin A, this is the perfect solution! The combination of raw milk, collagen powder and cottage cheese makes for a total of 38 grams of protein. Enjoy!

Nice recipe. A link for the non-homogenized milk would be helpful. Here in Oregon, we can't get raw cows milk without joining a hard to find co-op that sells 'shares' of a cow... and these shares are so expensive. Raw GOAT milk is available. Funny, in California, raw cows milk is easy to find at a local health food store!!! I have NEVER seen non homogenized milk in Oregon. So, if you are living in a state that allows raw cows milk, consider yourself VERY fortunate indeed.

Carrie, is there a store-bought brand of eggs that you feel comfortable eating raw?

It's hard on the digestive system and not good to be eating them raw.
