Natural toothpaste. This is a tricky one. As I understand it, a lack of FDA guidance means almost any toothpaste can label itself “natural.” Nearly all toothpaste contain glycerin, a sticky substance added to keep the past from drying out. I’m not really a fan of glycerin, though (for further reading click here and here).
Have you ever noticed the “warning” on your tube of toothpaste telling you to not ingest the product? If I’m not supposed to swallow the product, why do I even want it in my mouth?
Honestly, I haven’t figured out all the answers but I’ve found a few products that make me feel better about my family’s oral hygiene. Here are a few of my favorites:
Eco-Dent Tooth Powder – This is a winner in our family. It tastes and behaves like the conventional toothpaste most of us are used to. Easy to travel with, too.
Tooth Soap – I know. It’s a little crazy, but I used this for years and it really works well. You buy the bar and grate it into flakes. Use one flake each time you brush.
Miessence – This one doesn’t contain fluoride, aluminium, artificial sweeteners or detergents.
What is your favorite natural toothpaste?
