Greek Meatballs with Tzatziki Sauce (Grain-Free)

These Greek meatballs are delicious on their own, but can be taken to a whole new level with tzatziki sauce.

Greek Meatballs with Tzatziki Sauce (Grain-Free)

Ground beef is one of the most economical grass-fed meats, so I often cook with it at home. I’ve found that most farms will offer a discount when you buy ground meat in bulk, so I always have a stash in the freezer. You can use it to make meatballs, meatloaf, cottage pie, taco bowls, and much more!

Greek Meatballs with Tzatziki Sauce (Grain-Free)

These greek meatballs can be made ahead of time and frozen after baking. When kept in an airtight container, they will last for about 3 months in the freezer and can easily be reheated in the oven (I usually reheat the meatballs at 350 for about 15 minutes). Serve them with roasted potatoes and sliced cucumbers and you’ve got yourself a nutrient-dense, quick, delicious meal!

  • Diet: Gluten Free

Ingredients

Units

For the Meatballs:

  • 1 pound grass-fed ground beef
  • 3/4 cup feta cheese, crumbled
  • 1/2 cup chopped red onion
  • 1 tablespoon coconut flour
  • 1/4 cup chopped parsley
  • 2 teaspoons dried oregano
  • 1 large egg (or 2 egg yolks if you need to avoid whites)
  • 1/4 teaspoon Celtic sea salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper

For the Tzatziki Sauce:

  • 1 cup plain whole milk yogurt
  • 1 cup grated seedless cucumber (this is about 1/2 of a large cucumber)
  • 2 cloves minced garlic
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons fresh chopped dill
  • 1 teaspoon Celtic sea salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F and adjust rack to the middle position. Place all of the meatball ingredients in a large bowl. Using your hands, massage the mixture until combined. Using a 2-inch cookie scoop, spoon the meatball mixture into balls and place each meatball on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Repeat with remaining mixture. Bake for 15-18 minutes, until cooked through.
  2. Place all of the sauce ingredients in a bowl and stir until combined.
  3. Serve meatballs with tzatziki sauce.

Yum! Gonna have to try these soon.. might do half grassfed beef and half lamb. We get a leg of lamb from costco and grind it at home. Not sure if it's 100% grassfed, but pretty sure it's better than conventionally raised beef, and it's cheaper than the grassfed beef.

I just got your book for a gift and love it "Deliciously Organic". I am interested in milling my own grains. Can you recommend one. I have the Professional Series Kitchen Aid mixer. I saw an attachment but not sure if this is the way to go. I have look at some on amazon Nutri Grain mill. You recommendation would be greatly appreciated.

I love me some meatballs and love Greek food so I know I am going to love these recipes! Quick question: is the light grey celtic sea salt better for you than the finely ground celtic sea salt of the same brand? I used the finely ground and was surprised when I clicked on the link in the recipe and saw you used the light grey. Thanks for all you do on your website. It's a great resource for me!

They are the same salt. One is ground finer than the other. The coarse ground is cheaper, so I use that more often in my cooking.

This is what's for dinner tonight. The perfect meal for our cold weather here in the Mojave. I don't keep feta cheese around, since my kids have a long held aversion to strong cheeses. Any ideas on a substitute for feta? Thanks so much Sarah

Wonderful. I did find cheese curds at Albertsons, so I thought to substitute the curds for the feta. We will see how well it works. I am so thankful to have you blazing the trail for the rest of us. Sarah

This is an incredible recipe! I made this last night and had my roommates drooling over the smell of it all. Since i am in college and cook for myself i had plenty left over! i made about 15 1 1/2 inch meatballs and 4 filled me up plenty well:) I bet you could even make delicious hamburgers with this recipe. All you would need would be grain-free buns, the sauce, the meat patties, and maybe some tomatoes... I will probably try that once the barbecue season comes around:) Thank you for this recipe! Definitely going into my favorite recipes pile!!

How much emphasis should I place on meats being organic? I bought a couple lbs of grass fed ground beef today but I noticed that there was also an organic grass fed ground beef option (at a higher price, of course). Just curious what your thoughts are on this. I just recently found out I have Hoshimotos like you, and I'm trying my best to follow your example to get my body at its best possible place.
